Producer surplus and disposal pattern of rice: An empirical study in Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya

Abstract: Rice is the most important cereal crop and is a way of life for the people of Meghalaya state. The livelihood activities depend on rice in the state. The rice being a major crop could not get the recognion for sale in regulated markets of Meghalaya. The producer surplus is one of the factors in establishing the regulated market. Study revealed that the a few quanty of rice disposed in unorganized markets and it leads higher quanty of rice retained at household. Therefore, markeng of rice. Further, study found that dispose-off rice through processor to consumer is most popular channel it needs to be popularized through realizing the benefit to the rice growers.
