Abstract:
In Guntur chilli market of Andhra Pradesh, higher arrival indices were noticed during the months commencing from February (147.52) to April (190.02) and lower indices during the months from May to January. In respect of price indices, lower values were observed in April (92.17), while higher values of price indices were observed during the lean arrival months of May to January ranging from 93.41 to 103.83. The coefficient of variation of arrivals and prices was found to be 112.59 and 42.61 per cent respectively. Trend analysis revealed that there was an increasing trend in chilli prices and exhibited six cycles, each cycle on an average ranging from two to five years during the period under study. The extent of fluctuations arising as a result of factors other thanthose causing trend, cyclical and seasonal movements varied from 76.17 in 1989–90 to 108.92 in 1998–99.
