Abstract:
Okra is one of the major vegetable cultivated in the Gujarat state. Information relating to various problems faced by the okra growers was enlisted in a pre-tested interview schedule. The farmers were asked to rank the constraints in the order of importance. The opinion of the farmers were analysed by Garrett's ranking technique. The results of the study have shown that the okra growing farmers opined that inadequate supply of labour in the region were the major problem to carry out field operation in time. Fluctuation in prices was a major constraint in all the crop and okra was not exception for this phenomenon. The major reason to increase the post harvest loss in okra was lack of proper training and awareness about post harvest losses. There is a need to strengthen extension system and development of low cost post harvest technologies so as minimize the losses at farm level.
