Jitesh Chandra Saha

Indian Journal of Agricultural Marketing, 2023, vol. 37, issue 3

Abstract: Minimum Support Price (MSP) and Farm Harvest Price (FHP) are both for farmers interest, MSP is supposed to be announced before beginning of sowing season and FHP is realised after harvest when farmers sell their produce. Whereas wholesale price (WHP) and retail price (RTP) of agricultural commodities are related to traders and agripreneurs. Common point between farmers and traders is that all of them feel impact of inflation going on in Indian economy. Rise of MSP, FHP, WHP and RTP, if follows path of prevailing inflationary pattern, then it will be beneficial in real terms for the respective strata of population. From this perspective, this paper attempts to search how these agricultural prices move forward relative to Indian inflationary pattern from 1998-2021.
