Formation and enhancement of farmer producer organizations under Tamil Nadu irrigated agriculture modernization project (TN-IAMP): Implementation status and roadmap

Abstract: Farmers Producers Organizations have played a major role in this project by empowering farmers, promoting collective action, and improving their access to markets, cost effective technologies, and enhance the productivity, value addition and income. The project is also financed ‘productive’ demand-driven investments on a matching grant basis to FPCs for establishing these Farmer Common Service Centres (FCSCs) and this is available on the basis of business plans prepared by them. TNIAMP is being implemented from 2017-18 to 2023-24 in 46 sub-basins with a Project outlay of Rs.125 crores. Main objective of the FPC formation are to enhance farmer’s linkages to markets by providing alternative marketing channels and to facilitate investment in Supply chain integration and promote diversification. From TN-IAMP so for 63 FPCs formed in Phase I, II & III Sub basins including 4 Organic FPCs in Phase III. 16 FPCs have been formed in Phase IV during 2022-23, registration under progress. Additionally 10 new FPCs are planned to be formed during 2023-24. In this review paper gives an outlook of the Farmer producer organizations which are formed by the TN-IAMP and the implementation steps, status and roadmap.
