Shivangi Jain and Ramandeep Singh

Indian Journal of Agricultural Marketing, 2024, vol. 38, issue 1

Abstract: The food processing and packaging industry is a vital segment of the global business and is highly profitable. The key objective of all the players involved in the food supply chain is to ensure its safe and sound delivery to the ultimate consumers. In this context, packaging and labelling of food products play an essential role in the purchase process serving as the primary source of information for the consumers, enabling them to make informed choices in the marketplace. To protect food and safeguard consumer interests, FSSAI has promulgated mandatory food packaging and labelling guidelines that all firms are obligated to follow. Changing consumer lifestyles, technological advancements, and environmental and food safety concerns have collectively spurred growth and innovation within the packaging industry, resulting in advancements in food packaging technology. The paper showcases entrepreneurial success stories that illustrate the transformative potential of packaging and labelling, particularly in uplifting agricultural products. It further imparts invaluable strategic insights and recommendations to assist business entities in refining their packaging and labelling practices, ultimately fostering success in today’s dynamic and competitive marketplace.
