Abstract:
A Tobit model is estimated using the 2016 Nielsen Homescan panel data on household purchases to analyze the impact of socioeconomic variables on the demand for omega-3 eggs in the United States. Own price, price of conventional eggs, household income, anda set of household demographic characteristics emerge as statistically significant determinants of the quantity purchased of omega-3 eggs. The demand for omega-3 eggs is found to be elastic, conventional eggs are substitutes for omega-3 eggs, and omega-3 eggs are a normal good and a necessity.
