Journal of Agribusiness and Rural Development, 2013, vol. 30, issue 4

Abstract: Around large cities it is easy to come across villages taking the character of the town sleeping area. One of the factors of this process is a desire to improve their quality of life by living in better conditions – regardless of the interpretation of the term by different social groups. The area of research will be suburban communes, located close to Wroclaw, which are in the process of suburbanisation. A relevant question of the research will be to determine the relationship of migration of the population to the suburban areas with regard to changes in living conditions. Level of living conditions will be determined on the basis of available statistical data using a synthetic indicator Hellwig. The study proved that communes with the highest index in a base year (over 0.4) recorded the highest growth of population – more than 20%.
