Abstract:
The aim of the study was to analyse and assess preferences in the scope of using advisory services by farmers from the Lublin province. The results obtained from a questionnaire interview covering 28 questions, conducted from March to May 2016 among 200 farmers, were used. It was shown that among the motives for using advisory institutions, respondents indicated the desire to obtain EU financial assistance (31.5%) and prepare applications for this assistance (28.0%), to improve the level of skills and knowledge (16.0%) and to acquire new sales markets (9.0%). The reasons for choosing a specific advisory institution significantly depended on the gender of the respondents. For women, these were the costs of services (25.0%), opinions of friends (23.7%) and own experience (22.4%), while the reputation of the advisory centre was of the least importance (9.9%). Men mainly trusted their own experience (31.4%) and valued the comprehensiveness of advisory services (21.6%). The costs of services (12.7%) and market reputation (15.7%) were definitely less important to them. Statistical analysis showed that the age of respondents significantly determined the choice of the form of advisory entity, with Agricultural Advisory Centres being the leader in providing advisory assistance in each age group. Respondents declared greater interest in advisory services provided by the Agricultural Chamber and private institutions in the future.
