Abstract:
Rural tourism can be one of the forms of alternative tourism, and recreation "closer to nature" can bring the most benefits to the local population and tourism entrepreneurs. The aim of this article was to assess the attractiveness of selected elements of tourism in rural areas of Eastern Poland. In order to achieve this goal, the results of surveys conducted from June to September 2020 among 570 respondents were used. Due to the epidemiological restrictions in force during the period of the study, the survey was conducted using ICT tools, while some questionnaires were obtained by direct interview. The most frequently chosen form of tourism in rural areas by respondents turned out to be agritourism and emotional tourism consisting in visiting thematic villages, while culinary tourism was the least frequently chosen. The respondents most valued the possibility of contact with animals, close contact with nature, peace and quiet, active recreation and learning about local culture. Among the elements of tourist attractiveness of the studied area, respondents rated the natural values, the gastronomic base of Eastern Poland, and cultural values the highest.
