Abstract:
In the humanities and social sciences, social justice is a multidimensional concept. It is considered in the context of social well-being, universal human rights, and the idea of the good life. After referring to these concepts, the authors analyze farmers' protests in this article, placing them in the context of social movement theory, with particular emphasis on relative deprivation as the main cause of protest activities. Then, they consider protests organized by Polish farmers in the period from the mid-19th century to the present day, showing their basic demands. These considerations lead to the conclusion that all protests focused on ideas rooted in the aforementioned dimensions of social justice.
