Intra-industry trade of Hungarian agricultural products and the EU-accession

Attila Jambor

Studies in Agricultural Economics, 2010, vol. 111, 19

Abstract: This paper analyses structural changes in Hungarian agricultural trade after EU accession, especially considering intra-industry trade. Results suggest that EU accession raised the intensity of trade contacts but had a negative impact on trade balance. After accession, national agricultural exports by countries and products has shown a high but decreasing level of concentration, while in the case of agricultural imports, concentration was increasingly high by country and constantly low by product. Agricultural trade between Hungary and EU-15 is basically inter-industrial in nature, though the role of intra-industry trade is increasing.
