Abstract:
This study proposes to identify the factors that had an influence on the evolution of the return ratios of the banks and their impact on the banking performances by applying a multivariate regression model on the example of three most representative banks in Romania during 2010-2017 period. Thus, the return ratios (ROA and ROE), are considered dependent variables, while the capital adequacy ratio (CAR), the nonperforming loans (NPL) ratio, the net interest margin (NIM), the credits/deposits (CD) report, the debts/equity (DE) report, the demand deposits ratio (DDR) and the time deposits ratio (TDR) are the independent variables. The conclusions of the study are that the credits/deposits report, the debts/equity report and the nonperforming loans ratio have a significant influence, but negative effects on the return on assets, while the capital adequacy ratio, the interest margin and the time deposits ratio do not have a considerable effect on the return.
