Abstract: Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play a crucial role in reorienting the European economy towards more sustainable patterns of production and consumption, in the context of economic and environment changes. Taking into consideration the significant contribution to economic activities, SMES are important for green growth and they determine a considerable impact on the environment. At European level there were elaborated environment policies and implemented legislative measures in this field. Under the Europe 2020 Strategy, the Green Action Plan (GAP) support SMEs towards the opportunities offered by the transition to a green economy. Thus, SMEs can turn environmental challenges into business opportunities and increase their competitiveness.
