Abstract:
This study demonstrated that school absenteeism is a reflection of many factors that are not necessarily correlated with socioeconomic or ethnic variables. Even absenteeism for medical reasons is subject to cultural variation, and is not necessarily related to the real level of general health. The meaning of school absenteeism data must therefore be interpreted with great caution.
