Abstract:
The Zipcode Sectional Area appears to be a useful tool in studying physician distribution. It facilitates assembling and disseminating basic information on the distribution of physician specialists, and the example conducted in dermatology merits serious consideration by many other specialties. Because Zipcode Areas are delinated on the basis of economic activity, they are conceptually attractive as geographic units, and empirical evaluation of their usefulness in analytic research is planned.
