Erythema infectiosum (fifth disease) occurrence in Iowa

S.J. Naides

American Journal of Public Health, 1988, vol. 78, issue 9, 1230-1231

Abstract: Review of Iowa school nurse surveillance for erythema infectiosum, or fifth disease (FD), since 1973 demonstrated occurrence yearly except 1985 without a clear pattern of disease spread. We conclude that FD is more common than previously recognized. Failure to identify cases representing the background incidence of disease may account for underreporting.
