Abstract: Communication has always been one of the most important factors of organizational success. Employees’ ties in online and offline workplace communication networks are complementary resources whose interaction can influence their job performance. Network researches in organizations show that network characteristics have significant effect on employees’ and organizational performance. The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of technology, in general, and the social network theory on employees’ job performance, in particular. Network ties have been considered as direct and indirect ties in both online and offline workplace communication networks, which fall into four distinct types. As this research is non-experimental, a questionnaire was used to gather data. The results of field study among 104 knowledge workers, including software engineers, analysts, and technical leaders of research centers of communication and information technology, show that offline direct ties, offline indirect ties and online direct ties have significant impact on job performance, but the effect of online indirect ties on job performance is not significant.
