Protection and Valorization of Traditional Specialties Guaranteed in the Republic of Moldova

Abstract: At the end of July 2023, five traditional specialities guaranteed (”Plăcinta miresei”, ”Ghiţman”, ”Rasol de șuvai”, ”Plachie de pește” and ”Borș cu burecheţi”) were registered in the Republic of Moldova. This event has generated a wave of interest in what constitutes a traditional speciality, how protection is obtained and what is the legal status of traditional specialities guaranteed. In order to elucidate these aspects, the following study is presented. In this study an overview of the main legal provisions regarding the protection of TSG in the Republic of Moldova is provided. Further, the differences between the legal framework of the European Union and that of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the experiences of the European Union and of the Republic of Moldova in valorizing TSG are presented.
