Abstract:
Summary.— As a partial test of the Marxist sociology of art, selected evidence on the relationship between economic conditions and art content in a wide range of cultures is analyzed. The analysis reveals that (a) economic conditions are reflected in some kinds of art content, but (b) the main determinants of the reflection of economic conditions in art content seem to be emotional involvements (positive or negative) with aspects or objects of the economy.
