Abstract:
Abstract. A production function for the solution of homicides is estimated. Eight factors associated with the availability of evidence, community preferences, investigator experience, and investigator workload are indicated to be significant. An important finding is that offender rationality decreases homicide solutions significantly. This suggests the need to train police investigators in terms of economic reasoning.
