Abstract: This keynote address provides a foundation that incorporates decision‐theory methods for integrating uncertainty into the decision‐making process for patient care in the health care system. The article provides linkages between the medical economics literature, health care analysis, and quantitative methods to help improve the outcomes for patients in the health care system.
