Lord John Monks
Industrial Relations Journal, 2015, vol. 46, issue 1, 34-36
Abstract:
As a senior official of the TUC and then the General Secretary, the author worked with Bill McCarthy from the late 1970s and was able to observe Bill's creativity and agility as a mediator in industrial disputes. In this appreciation, he tells some stories of Bill's career which evoke the memories of an era when industrial disputes were front page news and Bill was often asked to help resolve them.
