A note on the mathematical basis of the SLIC index

James E. Rush and Phillip M. Russo

Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1971, vol. 22, issue 2, 123-125

Abstract: It has been shown that the index entries generated by the SLIC technique constitute a lattice which is a subset of the power set of the set of descriptors assigned to a document and that this fact leads to an improved algorithm for generating SLIC entries. It has also been shown that an isomorphic mapping exists between the SLIC lattice and a Boolean lattice (algebra).
