Abstract:
A methodolgy is presented for evaluating indexing resulting from two different indexing procedures. The evaluation is accomplished by asking a panel of judges to rate the indexing for a given document on a five point scale. The ratings are made on the basis of (1) the appropriateness of the terms to the documents and (2) the usefulness of the terms as access points for the documents. Results of an experiment using this evaluation method are also presented.
