Abstract:
On November 11, 1971, the Special Interest Group of the American Society for Information Science on Behavioral and Social Sciences held a panel discussion a t the annual meeting in Denver. The audience found the ideas generated of sufficient importance to request that the highlights be published and disseminated to policy makers and other key people. In this paper, Robin Crickman' has summarized the statements of the five panelists. The primary message from these and other comments made during the panel discussion was the need to probe more deeply into the utility of knowledge for decision‐making, to shift priorities toward making data more usable to policy‐makers than to collectors and disseminators.
