On‐line serials control system in a large biomedical library. Part III: Comparison of on‐line and batch operations and cost analysis

James Fayollat

Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1973, vol. 24, issue 2, 80-86

Abstract: The on‐line serials control system in use at the UCLA Biomedical Library is compared with former batch processing and manual procedures. It is evaluated in terms of performance, user satisfaction, and costs. The operation of the on‐line system is shown to be superior in these respects. Significant savings are achieved as a result of increased productivity made possible by the interactive system.
