Circulation dynamics: A planning model

Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1974, vol. 25, issue 6, 358-363
Abstract:
A mathematical model is presented that can be used to predict a library's circulation. Variables considered include changing user population, decreasing demand for older items in the collection, purchasing and circulation policies, weeding and other losses, and inflation. The model requires little data other than what libraries normally collect. An example of applying the model to a particular library is discussed. Possible extensions of the model are noted.
