Pragmatic expansion of an enumerative classification scheme

Charles H. Davis

Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1976, vol. 27, issue 3, 174-175

Abstract: Negative numbers are suggested as a means through which one enumerative classification can be expanded. An extension of the Dewey Decimal notation is described as it has been used for computar‐based SDI and implications for other automated systems are noted. A mirrorimage universe of unused notation is postulated for such classifications.
