SEQUEL as a Language for Document Retrieval

Ian A. Macleod

Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1979, vol. 30, issue 5, 243-249

Abstract: Traditionally the information retrieval community has avoided the type of data base management systems used in business applications. In this article it is shown how SEQUEL, a language designed for use in a data base management system, is potentially suited to a document retrieval system. The disadvantages of SEQUEL as it currently exists are discussed, and some extensions are proposed which appear to eliminate many of these disadvantages.
