Abstract:
Many companies have implemented E‐mail systems in a non‐standard manner. This article gives methods for interlinking such systems. It deals with the structure of directories and the X.500 standard. It defines the interconnection problem and develops the uses of a Global directory. It provides alternative structures for Global E‐mail systems and indicates how to manage such a system. It briefly discusses security, authorization, and distributed agents. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
