The evolving internet: Applications and network service infrastructure
Clifford Lynch
Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1998, vol. 49, issue 11, 961-972
Abstract:
This article has three goals. It begins by reviewing the current state of the Internet as a data transport system and some of its emerging problems. Then it discusses two major research initiatives—Internet 2 and the Next Generation Internet (NGI) program—and some of the new network‐level services that may first see substantial deployment in these new research testbeds. The article concludes with a few speculations about future changes to the Internet as a data transport system. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
