The Coefficient of Determination for a Regression Model Based on Group Data

N Kakwani

Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, 1993, vol. 55, issue 2, 245-51

Abstract: In this paper, the coefficient of determination for grouped data is defined as the proportion of between group variation in y that is explained by the regression. This measure is demonstrated to be superior to the one commonly used. A numerical illustration presented in the paper is based on the National Sample Survey data on consumer expenditure for the year 1983, covering the entire rural area of India.
