Abstract: Since the beginning of this century an almost uninterrupted flow of publications has drawn attention to the ever growing average height of man in the Western Hemisphere. It was said that the lengthening found during youth had already resulted in an adult height averaging over 15 centimeters (= 6“) taller than 100 ytars ago. This study is aimed at proving that, for a great part, the fixation of the growing height of adult man has, so far, been founded on an error, which, peculiarly enough, has come into being in an identical way in all countries where publications on this subject have appeared. After having been convinced of this error it has been possible to reveal a number of characteristics of the growth of man, unknown so far.
