Abstract:
The circulation of rolling‐stock‐units in a scheduled transportation system is formulated in terms of Flows In Networks. This formulation enables us to develop a convenient method to find a circulation of rolling‐stock which is optimal with respect to the total cost. Basic data are the time‐table and the capacity, needed in each scheduled train, tram, bus or flight. In addition also the case in which there are two different types of rolling‐stock‐units with respect to their capacity is considered. Especially the rate of using the two types is investigated against total cost.
