Abstract:
In most cases the buyer of durable consumers' goods cannot judge of the essential consumption characteristics, and is consequently guided by the finish. The manufacturer should bear this in mind, and should pay much attention to the outward appearance of these articles. Quality control is difficult to realise here, since in most cases the relevant properties cannot be measured because of their most subjective character. By means of a case study (bath‐tubs) the author illustrates the measures which had to be taken to effectuate quality control, and he mentions the results and successes yielded.
