Abstract: The historical sketch of scientific, legal and economic principles of formation and development of market land relations in the territories of Ukraine from IX to XXI century has been covered. Taking into account the mistakes and lessons learned in this area will enable the formation of an effective system of development of market land relations in modern Ukraine and ensure the introduction of agricultural land into economic circulation.
