Prospects of using the k-NN method of classification of satellite images for the forest inventory in Ukraine

Abstract: This paper deals with modern experience of statistical inventory of forests using ground-based inventory and remote sensing data (RSD). A detailed analysis of the k-NN method of classification of satellite images is given and features of its applying for thematic mapping of forest fund under the statistical forest inventory defined. The algorithm for calculating the stock of plantings for the statistical software with R open source is shown on the example of local research material.
