Abstract: The introduction of digital technologies into the world of work is currently widely discussed and is also a topic of sociological research on work and gender. From a gender perspective, the developments in the field of work raise a number of questions regarding, among other things, the scope for work design and the possibilities for design in the areas of work organization, division of labour and technology, as well as the opportunities and risks for greater gender equality. The article deals with the relationship between work, digitalization and gender on the basis of empirical research results from the field of industrial simple work. This is an area of work that has rarely been at the centre of gender research in the past, but which is very topical in the course of the debates on Industry 4.0. The results are integrated into a generalized discourse on the possibilities for work design and gender knowledge.
