Abstract:
In this paper we use various datasets to examine gender gaps regarding wages, working hours, work histories and pensions, as well as care work. Additionally, we look at entitlements in different German pension systems and individual old age incomes. Applying a life course perspective, our main focus is the gendered distribution of financial resources before and after retirement. One of our main findings shows that gender gaps are considerably higher in private pension provisions than in the statutory pension insurance.
