Abstract:
This study deals with the historical and political developments of the civil war in Lebanon between the end of 1978 and the beginning of 1979. The study focuses specifically on the Syrian-Israeli rivalry that these two local powers have transferred its rivality to the territory of another country - Lebanon. The civil war in Lebanon broke out in 1975 and the main struggle blocks were Christian militias, the Muslim militias, and the Palestinian Liberation Organization. These three blocks have been further broken down, as the contradictions took place inside them. Also, the external supporters of one of the parties to the conflict, Israel and Syria, also played a significant role. Both countries have provided their support firstly financially, religiously, nationalistically and ideologically, but later actively participated in the battles. However, their reasons were not to restore security and stability to Lebanon but to gain decisive influence in Lebanon. The aim of the study is to contribute to a deeper understanding of the history and development of Lebanon's internal development in that period.
