Abstract: Diplomacy is a complex phenomenon that has several dimensions, such as economic diplomacy, military diplomacy or cultural diplomacy. The present paper deals with cultural diplomacy. In the first part of this contribution, we attempt to define the concept in question, and thus also in relation to public diplomacy. Next, we focus on Slovak and Austrian cultural diplomacy. We apply predominantly the method of recherche and discourse analysis. Besides, some aspects are discussed and analysed in a comparative manner. Both Slovakia and Austria are active in the area of cultural diplomacy, however, certain differences, or specifics do exist. For instance, the difference in number of cultural institutes operating abroad is noticeable.
