Abstract: This paper analyses the impact of the implementation of the Structural Funds of the European Union on the active labour market policy in the Slovak Republic in the programming period 2007-2013. The Slovak Republic is among the European Union Member States with the highest long term unemployment rate. Active labour market policy measures are among the most effective instruments the state has to support employment and deal with the threat of poverty and social exclusion. In the programming period 2007-2013, active labour market policy measures in Slovakia were co-financed by the Operational program Employment and social inclusion. The implementation of this operational program in the programming period 2007-2013 has significantly contributed to mitigating the negative effects of the global economic and financial crisis in relation to the labour market in Slovakia.
