Abstract:
The aim of the article is to create an initial picture of the consequences of COVID-19 for the world economy. The article is divided into three basic parts, with the first part presenting estimates of the economic consequences of global pandemics from the plague in medieval Europe to the SARS pandemic in the early 21st century. The second part of the work gathers the latest available data on the development of the world economy, while the key role will be played by the latest estimates of the IMF and other international organizations, as well as analyzes of central banks and private companies. The last part of the work gathers the instruments of economic policy that the key economies in the world economy have announced to combat the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and will try to evaluate the course of these measures so far.
