Abstract:
The paper deals with the peculiarities of the economic history of the state of Uruguay. The aim of the paper is to evaluate the specifics of social development in the territory of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay after its colonization and gaining independence until the end of the 20th century. In the history of the world economy, this country with limited economic potential has experienced a remarkable development. Favorable internal conditions and external factors have led to Uruguay's prosperity since the end of the 19th century. The welfare of the country was based mainly on the breeding of cattle and its exports. Until the end of the 20th century, Uruguay alternated not only periods of economic prosperity and crisis, but also periods of democratic governments and military dictatorships.
