 GEOPOLITICAL CONTEXT OF THE NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT IN 2020Zuzana Rozkošová ()
Almanach (Actual Issues in World Economics and Politics), 2021, vol. 16, issue 1, 32-43 Abstract: The presented article aims to identify the geopolitical coherence of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in 2020 in the context of current relations between its actors and to point out the geopolitical causes of its emergence as well as the impacts of its outcome. The article is divided into three chapters. The first is devoted to a brief background of the conflict. In the second chapter, we focused on the geopolitical context of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey. The third part of the text deals with the geopolitical dimension of Russia in the current conflict. We can conclude that geopolitics has played a crucial, if not the biggest role in the recent conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. The victory of Azerbaijan, with the military and political support of Turkey, creates a new geopolitical balance in the South Caucasus, Russia's traditional zone of influence. Although Russia's diplomatic victory confirmed its role as a regional player, it demanded its prize.
