Abstract: After more than 70 years of peace in modern European history, the Member States of the European Union must face new challenges and growing security threats. European security has become more complex, less predictable, and more vulnerable. Deepening globalization and rapid technological progress are gradually blurring the line between internal and external security and increasing interdependence and dependence to such an extent that individual Member States are no longer able to face the current spectrum of threats individually but are dependent on mutual cooperation. That is also why security and defence issues are one of the central themes of the European integration agenda today. This is also the reason why the author of the article deals with this issue in his research. In this paper, he addresses the issueof the Union's Common Security and Defence Policy as one of the tools through which Member States can better and more effectively face current security challenges and threats together.
