Abstract:
The authors focus on the issue of emigration from non-democratic Czechoslovakia to democratic states. They examine the international media coverage on emigration from Czechoslovakia before 1989. The articles from German-language newspapers leverage content analysis and compare the outputs with the communist press. Based on this comparison, they highlight the differences between free press and press under the influence of the communist propaganda. The authors provide a historical review on the emigration of Czechoslovak citizens to the West. Based on the content analysis of periodicals, the authors analyse the historical development of emigration from former Czechoslovakia to the states of Western Europe.
