Abstract: The current corona crisis caused by the coronavirus-causing pandemic COVID-19 is also a disinformation crisis for the whole human society, but especially for the European Union. It is more than obvious that information and manipulation of information related to the pandemic have become a security issue for EU Member States and the Union as a whole. Therefore, the primary aim of the author, using relevant methods of interdisciplinary scientific research, is to point out the danger of the spread of disinformation and conspiracy theories for the EU, which unfortunately intensified with the outbreak of the pandemic, and to examine the relevant EU responses. Simultaneously, he focuses on the toxic impact of conspiracy theories on the EU public sphere. In conclusion, the author presents the view that European security and stability lies not only in ensuring society's defence, protection and resilience to disinformation and various conspiracy theories, but also in designing preventive mechanisms and confronting external sources of misinformation that threaten the Union and its citizens.
