Abstract:
Insufficient progress in implementing international agreements and commitments on climate change, or even non-compliance, is bringing the world closer to the point where the negative effects of global warming are becoming irreversible. This depends on the question of the effectiveness of international cooperation mechanisms and systemic causes within individual states related to the logic of the functioning of current capitalism. These two key aspects of tackling climate change are reflected in different theoretical backgrounds, and their conclusions are often different. The paper will outline some aspects of addressing issues of international cooperation in theories of international regimes, as well as different theoretical approaches to systemic changes in current economic and political relations in nation states.
